December Tasting Notes

A big thanks to everyone who came out on the 16th and made our first tasting a huge success.  And a huge thank you to Blake and the awesome guys at COOP AleWorks for hosting us.  We had approximately 30 members attend, and almost a dozen entries for our pale ale tasting.  First prize went to Wes Glinsmann for his all-citra pale ale (he's posted his base recipe here).

Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 20th, location TBA.  So stay tuned for further announcements.

If you're not already following us on Facebook and Twitter, be sure to check us out as we'll be posting regular updates and info there.

Pale Ale Winners

Last night's meeting at COOP Aleworks was a huge success! We'll have pictures and a more complete wrap-up coming soon, but we wanted to post the winners of our first club competition.

In the American Pale Ale (BJCP Style 10A) category:

First Place: Wes Glinsmann's CXP All-Citra Pale Ale
Second Place: Tony Tielli's Glacier Pale Ale
Third Place: Gail White's Millennium Madness

Congrats to all the winners and thanks to everyone who entered. There were a lot of really good beers, and our tastings are only going to get better. The next tasting will at our February meeting and will be a stout (BJCP Style 13). So good luck with your brewing!

Tasting Night at COOP!

Save the date: the next Red Earth Brewers meeting will be held Thursday, December 16th at 7:00 pm.

Now here's the good news--the awesome guys over at COOP Aleworks have agreed to let us use their brewery for our tasting!  The COOP brewery is at 1124 NW 51st St. (on 51st St, just west of Western Ave.--map below).

We'll be sampling all of our homebrewed pale ales this month.  So bring enough hoppy goodness for everyone to have a little sample.  If you bring a beer, please also bring a printout with your ingredients and any special methods you used.  That way, anyone who wants to copy your recipe would be able to do so.

The guys at COOP will have tables set up for us and are providing the tasting glasses.  They only thing they don't have is chairs.  So please bring your own folding chair if you would like to sit down during the course of the evening.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Are You Legal?

For most of the state's history, homebrewing was illegal in Oklahoma. All that changed earlier this year when, thanks to several members of our club and some friendly legislators, the Oklahoma Legislature passed HB 2348 and legalized the homebrewing of beer.

The only catch is that you need a permit from the ABLE Commission to be legal. But it's easy, it's free and, like it or not, it's the law. Just print off the form below, fill it out and mail it in to the Commission. It's that simple.

Homebrewing is finally legal in Oklahoma. So make sure that you're legal, too!
